Great all around home printer May 4, 2009 C. McMillan (NC) 42 out of 42 found this review helpful
I've had this printer for about a month now, and have printed and scanned several documents (have not tested the fax as I do not have a home landline).
Overall, I am pleased with the printer. The print quality, and speed are very good and the scanning couldn't be easier. The only small complaints I have about it are 1 - it's a bit noisy when it prints (and subsequently aligns the print after after each printing). In fact, when my wife sent something to the printer across the network from another room, my 2 year old was near the printer and it scared the dickens out of him!
The other drawback was (and I'll readily admit I'm no IT expert) I was unable to get the printer to install without using the HP CD that installs all kinds of extra crap I did not want on my machine.
Anyway, despite some things I do not like, I am very happy with this printer.
NICE EASY PRINTER AT A GREAT PRICE! July 5, 2009 JIM D (Long Island, NY USA) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace a 6 year old HP 7100 series printer that started to have mechanical problems. I was hesitant to buy the C6500 based on some of the reviews I had read about set up problems.
I was amazed at the ease of installation! I have it connected via a LAN to my wireless router. I used the provided CD to install it and the install took maybe 20 minutes on my first computer. It is almost automatic in that it found the network and came online quickly. Make sure you shut off Norton Security firewall first. On my second computer I forgot to do that and the install SW could not find the printer.
Print quality seems very good and printing is quick. I have only had it a week so I cannot speak to ink use yet. The provided utility provides easy access to all the functions and ink status including scanning in a simple fashion. Much easier than the old 7100 which was slow to open up the scan function from my laptop. Noise is not a problem as I have it maybe 20 feet from my desk at home
This is not an industrial grade printer as the plastics are lite compared to the 7100 which weighed almost twice as much. But the thing is compact and easy to use and seems to print and fax very well. It even has a function to check your fax phone line set up which is great, since I only have one wired phone line now and so previous fax check meant sending something from work.
I paid $110 for it from PCCONNECTION with free shipping. I later saw it at Best Buy for $99 this week.
Based on value, print quality and very easy set up I gave it a 5.
Best All-In-One for the price for Mac OS X November 21, 2009 Michael A. Linneer (Sherman, TX) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Replacing an Epson CX5000 because the T069 inks are just killing me. The OJ 6500 was a breeze to set up and network on 2 iMacs and a Macbook using Airport. Just hooked the printer to my router and installed the software on the Macs... easy! I have 3 Intel Macs all running Leopard 10.5.8. The included software package is full featured and capable. The Twain driver works great with Photoshop Elements 8 and the included HP Scan, and a 48 bit 1200dpi scan of a color 5x7 only took a minute and a half. The twain driver does NOT work with Image Capture though, which is really no big deal as HP Scan has a lot more options. Standard printing is high quality but photos are a little dark and blue shifted, which may be my Colorsync profile at fault. Beautiful text and graphics from Pages, Numbers, Word, Excel, NeoOffice, Adobe Reader, AppleWorks, and Printshop.
The 920 cartridges are roughly the same price as my old Epson cartridges but are rated at twice the pages. My math puts it at about .12 per page, much cheaper than the .24 per page the Epson was averaging. 20 or 30 photos would suck the Epson tanks dry. I'm hoping the HP fairs better for 8x10 prints. I'm using outside print shops for smaller prints... no home printer can compete with .15 per photo.
Also of note: The HP installer assigns the files the wrong group so fix permissions after you install.
I'd definitely recommend this printer for any dorm, home, or small office usage.
So happy to get rid of my Dell ink guzzler !!! October 11, 2009 Michael B. Medley (Mexico, AL. USA?) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This printer is good on ink and for $99 and free shipping it can not be beat. It has a great feature on fax machine called auto answer so you can turn fax on or off with the push of a button(this is helpful if you use an answering machine and only fax few times a month.) I had a Dell 966 I bought for $256 in 2006 and had to pay $65 every three months for ink and never got over 100 pages of printing, I'm serious. I bought a 500 pack of inkjet paper in 2006 and I still have paper left. Since then I have went threw 20 dell ink cartridges over $600 dollars in ink 3 years. Before this I purchased HP 5550 (this printer makes the best prints and photos of any printer I have ever seen) for $50 and used it from 2002 to 2006 (only used 3 set of ink and 1 photo cartridge about $200 of ink in 4 years) but I wanted an all in one so I bought a Dell 966 wish I had bought another HP then I would have saved me $400 dollars in ink. Always buy HP printers never buy a Dell Printer!!!!!!!!!!!
